Do solar panels need maintenance?
Very little. Panels have no moving parts, so the main jobs are keeping the glass reasonably clean and checking that the inverter is producing what it should.
Most problems show up first in the monitoring app as a drop in daily production, so a quick look once a month is the most useful habit.
How often to clean solar panels in Murcia
Dust, calima (Saharan dust) and bird droppings build up faster here than in northern Europe, especially on low-pitched or flat roofs. Once or twice a year is usually enough, ideally in spring and after a heavy calima.
Rain rinses tilted panels, but after a muddy calima shower a proper clean often recovers noticeable output.
How to clean solar panels safely
Use soft water, a soft brush or squeegee and no detergents or pressure washers, which can damage the coating and seals. Clean early in the morning when the glass is cool.
Never walk on panels. If the roof is not safe to reach from the ground, book a professional clean.
Checks worth doing
Look for warning lights or error codes on the inverter, loose cables, shading from new growth on trees, and cracked glass. Batteries should be checked in the app for unusual temperatures or cycling.
We recommend a professional inspection every few years, covering connections, protections and production against expected figures.
