They are both heat pumps
Modern split air conditioning (aire-aire) heats and cools by moving heat in and out of the air. Aerotermia usually means an air-to-water heat pump that heats water for radiators, underfloor heating and your hot water cylinder, and can also cool.
When air conditioning is enough
If you mainly need summer cooling, occasional winter heat and already have another way to heat water, split units are cheaper to install and very efficient in Murcia's mild winters.
When aerotermia makes sense
Choose aerotermia if you want to replace a gas or gasoil boiler, have or plan underfloor heating, or want efficient hot water for the whole household from one system.
Running either on solar
Both work best with solar panels. Cooling demand peaks when the sun is strongest, and hot water can be made during the day and stored for the evening.
